Overview
The Graphic Design Practices Module Level 4 course is part of the HN Flex programme, which allows students to study individual units and gain a Certificate of Unit Credit, with the opportunity to progress onto a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND).
The Photographic Practices Module Level 4 course is part of the HN Flex programme, which allows students to study individual units and gain a Certificate of Unit Credit, with the opportunity to progress onto a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND).
This HN Flex course allows students to learn graphic design techniques and practices, and to build up a portfolio of work that will support professional development or progression into further study.

The course is very flexible, and can be tailored to include areas such as design and multimedia principles, typography, editorial design, corporate identity, branding, packaging and digital creativity. You will develop skills in generating ideas and concepts, research, referencing, presentation and communication of your work and professional software including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
Students will study alongside Higher Education Graphic Design students and complete assessments for the part of the course that they join.
The course is very flexible, and can be tailored to include areas such as studio photography, location photography, digital image production, image manipulation and darkroom practice. You will develop skills in pre- and post-production, including research, image editing, print production and professional software including Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
Students will study alongside Higher Education Photography students and complete assessments for the part of the course that they join.

Where it can take you This unit is from the Pearson HN Art & Design Framework – Graphic Design pathway, and can be used as credit towards a full Higher National Certificate or Diploma in Graphic Design or another creative subject.

You should have English and Maths at GCSE grade 4(C) or Level 2. If you don’t have this, we can undertake an assessment to help you to show you can work at this attainment level.
