LAUNCHED New kit for you and your boat
B&G app B&G, a partner for the Round the Island Race this year, unveiled its app last summer and for 2022 has a number of updates including safety and navigation enhancements, personalised notifications, plus an anchor alert safety feature for premium subscribers. The B&G App is available on both the Apple Store for iOS and Google Play for Android. Premium subscribers now get a satellite overlay view, enhancing situational awareness with the option to choose between full view or land-only. In addition, they can select the transparency level of the layer. There is also a weather overlay, which includes wind, gust, rain and more. So you can predict what the weather will be like at a specific point in your trip. When anchoring, premium users can set their location and receive push notifications if the yacht drifts. Using GPS data, a breach of the geofence will result in the sound of an alarm, meaning “sailors can now be certain their anchor is not dragging and get a good night’s sleep”. You can also share tracks with friends and followers in social media channels.
Helly Hansen quick-dry t-shirt Also marking its partnership with the Round the Island Race this summer is Helly Hansen, official clothing supplier for the event. This HP Ocean Quick-Dry T-shirt is part of the Round the Island Race Capsule Collection, “made for the warm days on the water, using a technical fabric that will keep you cool when the sun heats up”. Smell good at sea Rowing team One Ocean Crew, first in the female class in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge recently, were sponsored by a company called Grangers, which assisted the rowers by ensuring they smelled good and were well-waterproofed. Easier said than done for four ocean rowers in an open boat.
