The Trevinos: Giving the Gift
hen Manuel and Mary Trevino received the Sacrament of Matrimony, they had no idea how many joyous blessings, as well as sanctifying crosses, God would send their way. Yet, they put their trust in Him and one another. Now, 47 years later, they are seeing the fruit of their faith and perseverance. “Our family consists of four children — Stephen, Trisha Villa, Manny III, and Elizabeth Lewis, as well as sixteen grandchildren,” Manuel says. “We are a celebratory family who gathers for Easter, Christmas, birthdays, and many other occasions that spark an interest. Our gatherings are filled with a family spirit and joy, and we recognize and thank God for His blessings on each occasion.” Awe-inspired, they see how God has watered the hearty seeds of faith they planted in their children’s souls as they were growing up.
“Our entire family, though spread out now at various local parishes, continues to grow in the Catholic faith with their young families and receive Je-sus in the Eucharist,” Manuel says. “Family values always remain in the hearts of future generations. Our parents prayed that we would keep the faith, and now we try to live it. We pray that those in future generations will do so, as well.” Looking back, they are grateful that they took their duties as Catholic parents seriously. “As Catholic parents, we were always involved in our children’s Catholic upbringing,” Mary says. “We had them in Catholic elementary schools, and when they were in public high school, I was involved with their Confirmation team. I thank God that our children continue to make their Catholic faith an important part of their lives.”
