Offers Valuable Ways of Sharing and Fostering Our Faith

n the 1990 encyclical, Redemptoris Missio, St. Pope John Paul II called for the “new evangelization.” We are charged with the task of finding new ways to reach out to those who have never heard the Gospel, as well as those who have fallen away from the faith. In the decades since the document’s publication, the Internet has transformed our world and the spread of information. So, in order to keep up with our culture, having a presence on social media is a vital aspect to our Catholic faith. It is an international movement that started after World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany in 2005. The virtual event was a tremendous success. “Virtually, we had 3,000 views in the three hours of streaming,” Titi says. “It was so powerful on the screen, just like in person.” Maria Balakshin, Chair of the Stewardship Committee, had been unable to attend Nightfever, because she cannot drive at night. She says the streaming was the most meaningful virtual event she has ever been part of. Being in an older generation herself, Maria wants to encourage other senior citizens to accontinued on page 6
