What Is the Real Purpose of Our Lives?
¿Cuál es el verdadero propósito de nuestras vidas?

o you ever think about your purpose in life? In my ministry as a priest, I certainly do. There are days and times in prayer or out of frustration when I ask, “What does God really want from me? What does He want me to do? Why am I here?” Throughout all generations, philosophers have considered these very questions and written about them. But the truth is that we, as Catholics, already know the answer. When we consider the many facets of life in our parish community, there are numerous activities and endeavors that go beyond attending Mass. Yet, as we undertake these important pursuits — both within and outside of the parish — we must always remember that our ultimate purpose is to work with Christ in His plan of salvation. After all, the only reason we exist, the only reason our Church exists, is the same as the reason Jesus joined us and became a part of us here on earth — He came to save humanity. We use the term the “body of Christ” to describe the Church with Christ as the head. We are all parts of that body, and the parts of the body must move in the same direction as the body itself — it simply won’t function if the parts are moving in different directions. We are all in this together. I thank all of you who showed me your love and support as I celebrated the 25th anniversary of my ordination. It was a great blessing and joy to be together in celebration of the Eucharist and also have time for socializing and relaxing as we walk with Christ toward His kingdom. Your presence certainly confirms the choice that was made 25 years ago. To the next 25 years together!

Alguna vez as pensado en tu propósito en esta vida? En mi ministerio como sacerdote, ciertamente lo e pensado. Hay días y momentos en oración o por frustración en los que pregunto: “¿Qué es lo que Dios realmente quiere de mí? ¿Qué es lo quiere Él que yo haga? ¿Por qué estoy aquí?” A lo largo de todas las generaciones, los filósofos han considerado estas mismas preguntas y han escrito sobre ellas. Pero la verdad es que nosotros, como católicos, ya conocemos la respuesta. Cuando consideramos las muchas facetas de la vida en nuestra comunidad parroquial, hay numerosas actividades y esfuerzos que van más allá de asistir a la misa. Sin embargo, a medida que emprendemos estas actividades importantes, tanto dentro como fuera de la parroquia, siempre debemos recordar que nuestro propósito final es trabajar con Cristo en Su plan de salvación. Después de todo, la única razón por la cual existimos, es la única razón por la cual existe nuestra Iglesia, es la misma razón por la cual Jesús se unió a nosotros y se convirtió en parte de nosotros aquí en la tierra: vino a salvar a la humanidad. Usamos el término “cuerpo de Cristo” para describir a la Iglesia con Cristo como cabeza. Todos somos partes de ese cuerpo, y las partes del cuerpo deben moverse en la misma dirección que el cuerpo mismo; simplemente no funcionará si las partes se mueven en diferentes direcciones. Todos estamos juntos en esto. Agradezco a todos los que me mostraron su amor y apoyo al celebrar el 25 aniversario de mi ordenación. Fue una gran bendición y alegría estar juntos en la celebración de la Eucaristía y también tener tiempo para socializar y relajarnos mientras caminamos con Cristo hacia Su reino. Su presencia ciertamente confirma la elección que se tomó hace 25 años. ¡Por los próximos 25 años juntos!
