T HE ASSOCIATION had request-
I ed from the Arizona State Legislato-rs a studv committee on Workmen's Compensation.
My office was advised on October 10, the request had been granted.
ALBSA members are currently presenting at the committee hearings some recommended legislation to tighten Workmen's Compensation laws in order to cut down the rates.
President Jim Barlow has appointed a committee to work with the association staff aiding in testimony before the committee.
The following State Representatives have been named to the Legislative Study Committee:
Jim Skelly, chairman Scottsdale
John Humphreys Sierra Vista
Carl Kunasek - Mesa
Lillian Jordan Phoenix
Jim Philips - Yuma
The State Insurance Department announced an average l3.l7o increase for all classifications effective September l, 1977. We did get some relief since the Lumber Yards Classification Code 8232 (outside employees) had a 5Vo decrease. Code 8058 (inside employees) had an increase of l0%.
The following new members were approved at the board meeting held at Lake Havasu on September 10. they were:
Arizona Building Materials - Kingman.
Big Daddy Bldg. Materials Phoenix.
Camp Verde Lumber & Hardware - Camp Verde.
Oakcreek Builders Supply Sedona.
New associate members approved were:
Arizona Pallet Co. Phoenix.
Clark Lumber Mfg. Phoenix.
Orth, LaPrade & Tatterson, Inc.Phoenix.

A number of management changes have also taken place. Don Brayko has moved to United Building Centers, Billings, turning over the reins of UBC at Bozeman to Ken Beltz. Dick Nestaval now manages Knox Lumber, Billings. Bob Brookie is new manager of Pippin Lumber, Saco. Art Tysee has the reins for Great Plains Supply, Sidney. Mark Bauer has taken over management of Midland, Inc., Sidney, from Dick Graham who is handling affairs at Midland, Inc., Miles City. Representing MBMDA at the Annual National Convention in New Orleans were Roger and Lila Walsh (Walsh Anderson Lumber, Great Falls), Dex and Lois Shaurette, (St. Regis Paper Co., Libby), and yours truly.
