"Our LOSP procedures are also designed to ensure that our workers are not exposed to health concerns during the LOSP treatment process. Key to minimizing any health risks is allowing sufficient time for the solvent used in the treatment to evaporate (called 'flashing off') before any handling takes place. The current industry-recommended flash-ofT period is a minimum of three to four days. In New Zealand there have been instances publicized where other manufacturers have allowed structural timber to be handled while still wet with treatment, a practice FWS does not condone. Before being physically handled, FWS' wood is exposed to airdrying for a minimum of three to six weeks, depending on the thickness of the material and air temperature. In addition, our process involves the individual 'filleting' of each piece of wood to allow circulation of air around all of the product pieces. Our product is then painted with two coats of primer. Quite aparl from the need to ensure the health of workers is not compromised, the primer will not adhere if there is residual solvent present in the wood.
"We follow all New Zealand wood processing safety standards, and use a tried and tested EPA registered treatment for our products. We are committed to producing non-hazardous, environmentally responsible, and durable products for our customers."
