Decisions and timing are at a premium. Remain six feet away, social distance, wash your hands with soap & water, use hand sanitizer. It’s safe, not safe, Safe, go out, don’t go out, whatever you do be extra careful. As we seek to find our rhythm in this Double-Dutch game of “Stay Home & Stay Safe”, the challenge to jump back into social distancing with hopes that timing and foot placement get us in and out without being stung by the unforgiving COVID-19 jump rope. Let’s live our best life. Thankfully, at the time this article is being drafted, there is a hope for an effective vaccination and improved treatment for the disease however, we are likely more than 8 months away from the average American getting the promised shot. So until then we shall calibrate our perspective, increase our focus, and apply uncommon discipline.

When the lockdown began in March with the “15 Days to Slow the Spread” precaution and plea from the POTUS COVID-19 Medical Advisory Team, we redesigned our lives by restricting our movements outside of our homes for essentials only. The Stay Home created a time when families intimately reacquainted themselves with one another, virtual school and vocations took shape such that now many people are referring to this as the new normal. Adults and children successfully have shifted their means of learning, communicating, and their spheres of influence. Many children have not been in a physical classroom learning environment nor their parents back in semi-social cubicle cities, or factories of the pre-COVID era.

Perspective can be your Passport or Prison. The shift in behavior due to the global pandemic has shifted paradigms and perspectives. The days of teachers taking rollcall after the tardy-bell, foreman/supervisors checking punched cards, or online time and attendance seem like ancient times. Zoom calls, Microsoft Meets, and many other video/voice applications have re-defined our perspective on going to work and school. Many businesses and some school districts have realized extreme benefits from the Stay Home experience; more productive employees and increased student creativity, to name a few. What has been your experience, Passport or Prison?

Now that the presidential election has determined a winner, we draw nearer to a shift to normalcy that the promised shot brings, increase your Focused Intensity. Make a list, check it twice, and then start getting after it! Create a list of things you can do on your own and a list of the things you may need help with, call a friend that is equally COVID conscious and safe, show them the list, and go over it with them, invite them over, and double-team those items on the list! Have what you want and don’t settle for less! Put a stapler by the copier, apply double-sided tape on the pictures that are always crooked, throw out things that are broken, cut down the limb that’s been hanging since the last heavy rain; whatever it may be . . . GET AFTER IT! A slight change can have a positive impact on the way normal is defined. Saving money, reading books, or learning a new techno-skill can change our lifestyle with eight months of focused intensity.

Uncommon discipline leads to uncommon achievements and it is not too late to start. We still have a few months before normal is reinstated, or redefined. Take the time to connect with people that inspire you. This can be done by joining a book club like Sean Croxton’s QOD Book Club, which is filled with people expressing innovative ideas and naturally encouraging. Virtual run clubs are the definition of teamwork and encouragement towards wellness/health/fitness and the Total Life Change family is another group of encouragers. Getting in position to be inspired is truly one of the great benefits of social distancing particularly for those introverts that might be anxious in person, among the social settings of old. With an internet search all sorts of groups are findable (be sure to check the reviews) AND there are many platforms for those who want to develop their own groups.

Calibrate your perspective. Perspective can be your passport or prison. Focusing on your desires causes conscious and unconscious plans to evolve towards those desires, “where your attention goes, your energy flows”, is still true. Adjust your perspective, increase your focused intensity, and apply uncommon discipline to receive the desires of your heart. With the right support network and intentional inner transport yourself further into your Best Life.

Let us always remember we are stronger together, and the bonds formed during the Stay, the empathy during the Black Lives Matter socio-ethnic unrest, and the philanthropy that grew due to the economic crisis do not have to stop. Service First must continue to be part of our mantra. Knowing that you can be the change we all need, encourage yourself often with these ten two letter words, “If It Is To Be, It Is Up To Me!”
