Megan Peterson by Dawn Geertsema Megan Peterson began her career as an independent designer fresh from college. âAs my portfolio and client list grew, I was continually disappointed in the service and options we received over the years through other local stores,â said Peterson. When these stores couldnât provide her what she wanted, she curated her own design showroom in downtown Sioux Falls called Design House. âWe are a small, hands-on company who pride ourselves in providing the best service and latest products from the industryâs best manufacturers at all price points,â she added. Peterson lets 605 into her head, sharing about both her professional and personal experiences.

5 QUESTIONS WITH PETERSON WHATâS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT INTERIOR DESIGN? For me, itâs the perfect mix of business and creativity. My days are a combination of sales, job-site walkthroughs with contractors, and design development meetings with clients. I also really love getting to know the clientsâ lifestyles and creating spaces that allow for them and their families to live in more functional homes they are proud to live in.
HOW DO YOU SPEND TIME WHEN YOU ARENâT WORKING? We travel as much as we possibly can, either with the kids or just a long weekend with my husband. If we canât get away, live music or a good meal and cocktails at one of our favorite local spots is a good reset. I have also spent a fair amount of time this summer on golf courses, but my game has yet to improve.
WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN INTERIOR DESIGN? I wanted to be a designer for as long as I can remember. It was the only career I researched in school, and I only applied to colleges with accredited design programs. There was never a back up plan, and there still isnât one.
WHICH SEASON OF THE YEAR DO YOU MOST THRIVE IN? It would have to be spring or fall. The fresh, re-building that occurs in the spring is very inspiring and a wonderful mindset after a long winter. But the mom in me has grown to appreciate the change that occurs in the fall after a busy summer of kidsâ activities and weekend travels that turns back into a cool, slower routine. Also, it is Husker football season, so thereâs that.

âWe strive to make the design process personal and fun.â WHATâS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN STYLE? I like to think I donât necessarily have a design style that has a formal name. A space that is tailored, yet comfortable with timeless architecture and neutral colors is my comfort zone.
